Alberta N. Buttler , age 91 lifelong resident of Elwood, passed away on Monday, June 23, 2025 at Elwood Health and Living following a long well-lived life. She was born on Feb. 18, 1934 in Elwood the daughter of Rayfield and Opal (Roller) Hughes. She married Ellis L. "Bud" Buttler on March 29, 1952 and shared 44 years together before his passing on April 3, 1996. She attended Elwood High School. Alberta was a faithful member of the Bethesda Temple in Anderson where she was very involved in many church functions. She worked as a machinist for 30 years with General Motors / Delco Electronics in Kokomo before retiring in 1984. After retiring, Alberta worked in home healthcare and waitressing. She enjoyed cooking and was always feeding everyone. She has been passing down recipes to the younger generations to keep the tradition of cooking alive. Alberta loved to travel, go on vacations, and spend time with her family. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Alberta is survived by 2 daughters, Karen (Jim) Stout of Elwood, and Susie (Marty) Robison of Elwood; son, Tim (Harriett) Kelley of Kansas City, MO; 3 siblings, Carol Moore of Elwood, Charlotte "Charlie" Ritter of Anderson, and Lawrence (Patricia) Hughes of Clay City; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Alberta is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ellis L. "Bud" Buttler; 2 sons, Jeff Buttler, and Ellis L. "Buddy" Buttler, Jr.; 7 siblings, Jimmy Hughes, Bill Hughes, Jerry Hughes, Rose Eldridge, Kay Harpel, Lynn Rust, and Mary Feak.
A funeral service celebrating Alberta's life will take place at 1:00 PM on Thursday, June 26, 2025 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Pastor Dervin White of Bethesda Temple officiating. Burial will follow the service in Elwood City Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 11 AM to 1 PM prior to the service on Thursday at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Bethesda Temple through the funeral home. Online condolences and memories may be shared at copherfeslermay.com.
