Obituary

Adam Burton, age 93 and a long-time resident of Elwood, passed away Monday, July 11, 2016 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis after a very brief illness. Adam was born November 24, 1922 in Anderson to Adam and Lavina Mae (Booth) Burton, Sr. Adam retired from Airfoil Textron Corporation (formerly Ex-Cell-O Corporation) in Elwood in 1989 after more than 33 years of service. He attended Richland Township schools and later married Mary Frances Flowers on September 6, 1942. Adam was a devoted Christian and faithful member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Elwood. He was a volunteer firefighter and Founding member of the Pipe Creek Township Fire Department since 1960, and was the last surviving Charter member of the department. Adam enjoyed assisting his son at Barnyard Greenhouse; enjoyed gardening; and also formerly worked at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery as a caretaker for over 20 years. In Elwood, Adam was a permanent fixture on a daily basis at several local businesses including Mr. Happy Burger, Hardee's, Lincoln Square, and Barnyard Greenhouse. He loved socializing with people, and never ever knew a stranger. More than anything, he was devoted to his family, and will be greatly missed by many.

Adam's family and legacy includes 2 sons, David (wife Janie) Burton and Kenyon (wife Connie) Burton all of Alexandria; daughter-in-law, Karen (husband Mel) Burton-Fletcher of Greenwood; 7 grandchildren, Keith (wife Missy) Burton, Todd (wife Cathy) Burton, Beth (husband Jamie) LaShure, Sarah (husband Doug) Clouser, Holly (husband Justin) Walter, Amber (husband Scott) McCord, and Adam K. (fiance' Tonya) Burton; 5 great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Burton, Jake LaShure, Khloe Walter, Brandon Walter, and Joshua McCord; and several nieces and nephews.

Adam was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 55 years, Mary Frances Burton who died November 18, 1997; and a son Delbert Burton who died in 2008.

A funeral service celebrating Adam's life will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 15, 2016 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Ken Horning of the First Church of the Nazarene officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park in Elwood.
