Ada Marie Hargrave, age 89 of Elwood, was taken home with Jesus on Thursday, February 20, 2014 at Summit Convalescent Center in Summitville after a lengthy struggle with Alzheimer's disease. She was born September 15, 1924 in Science Hill, Kentucky, the daughter of Oscar and Z. Ellen (Flynn) Owens. She was a homemaker most of her life, and was a very dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. Ada graduated from Eubanks High School in Kentucky and was a former member of the Somerset Baptist Church in Kentucky. She married William L. Hargrave on February 7, 1952. Ada enjoyed working with flowers and loved animals - especially cats and horses. She also enjoyed quilting, ceramics, and hand making doll clothes. Ada especially enjoyed her trip she took to Hawaii with her son and daughter-in-law, Denny and Teresa. Her family finds comfort in knowing that Ada is now well again in Heaven.
Ada's family includes a son, Denny R. (wife Teresa) Blevins of Marion; 2 daughters, Sheila Ann Hargrave (Cooper) of Elwood and Ruth E. (husband Steve) Arehart of Elwood; sister-in-law, Norma Jean Hargrave of Marion; 3 grandchildren, Ryan Blevins, Jordan Arehart, and Ethan Arehart; a great-granddaughter, Ariah Rae Blevins; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of more than 50 years, William L. Hargrave who died May 17, 2002; infant daughter, Terri Hargrave, who died at birth; 2 brothers, Eugene Owens and Audrey Owens; and a brother-in-law, Fred Hargrave.
A service celebrating Ada's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Joe Collier of the First Pentecostal Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 4 to 8 PM on Monday, February 24, 2014 at the funeral home.
